Newness of Life
"Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." - Romans 6:4
Newness of life, the life that believers in Jesus Christ now walk in having been raised with Jesus from the dead. This is the life of the new creation, the life of righteousness and true holiness in the image and likeness of God. Death is the starting point, when Christ died we died. And that’s good news! But there is more .. more good news and that is that we were raised with him!
Through Jesus resurrection we have received this newness of life, we’ve been made alive to God, dead to sin. We have the power to rule over sin, take dominion over it as ones who have been brought from death to life! That power that raised Jesus from the dead is at work in us! Life is now at work in us!
In addition to the great blessing of salvation from God's wrath, our Christian walk is one where by we now live with the quality and reality of the Son of God in us.
We have been delivered from the corruption of this world and its ways and now made alive to God.
This newness of life is the fullness of life that Jesus gives, everlasting life, Zoe. Christ in us. This is what the Christian experience is about here on earth.
Paul says, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” - Galatians 2:20
Newness of life transforms weak miserable common men to become powerful vessels in whom the Spirit of God dwells. Paul says not many of you were of noble birth, not many of you were influential. (1 Corinthians 1:26)
Newness of life makes a man an overcomer, a slayer of giants. Christ at work in us. Our prayer life is transformed, our relationship with God is revolutionised. We become world changers in the places where God has placed us, as imitators of God, walking in the likeness of the Son and the Father, in true righteousness and holiness. These are the things God has freely given us in his Son.
Newness of life brings us into a place of true worship of our creator. Romans 6:22 reads, "But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life."
