Union with Christ

Agreement with God means that we are walking with him in Spirit, walking in obedience to his commands and in fellowship with him. Enjoying the blessings of the finished works of Jesus. Him in us and us in him. This is the reality of the new creation. Harmony, union.

Throughout his earthly ministry, Jesus walked as one with the Father

In John 10:30, he said to his disciples, "I and the Father are one..", for which some Jews picked up stones and wanted to stone him.

In John 14, Philip had asked, “Lord show us the Father and this shall be enough for us…” Jesus said to his disciples, “ don’t you know me Philip even after I have been among you for such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. "

In Verse 10 Jesus asks them, “don’t you believe that I am in the father, and father is in me?”

Jesus modelled union with the Father, Jesus said, “If you have seen me you have seen the Father.” - John 14:9

Today, union with Christ for the believer gives us our similitude with the son, we can say, “If you have seen me, you have seen Jesus…" Scripture calls us written epistles, known and read by all men. We are to shine forth the light of our risen King Jesus as we are transformed into his image from glory to glory. (2 Corinthians 3:2-3, 18)

Let’s take a look at this from Jesus words in what I regard as the most important prayer in scripture, the prayer Jesus prayed to the Father before he was arrested in the gospel of John verses 17, Jesus here is praying for you and I , those who would believe in him through the message of the disciples and he says “ verse 20-26

“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

“Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” - John 17

....that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You;

We come into union with Christ by knowing him. Jesus had said to his disciples, you believe in God, believe also in me, because Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Believing in Jesus, knowing Jesus is eternal life. Look at John 17:3, “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

Jesus prayed that we may be one, in union with him as our reality.

Look at verse 26, "And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”

Jesus prayed for our oneness with himself before he went to the cross.

He is the life, he is the vine, we are the branches, without him we can do nothing. Him in us is life itself. No one comes to the Father except through him. Union with Christ is the very essence of Christianity. Him in us, us in him. Filled with his love.

Take a look at John 14:23, Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

I don’t think we have thought enough about this as the body of Christ, the creator and the son in us.

Our inheritance is in Christ and never outside of him. The scripture says and we declare, “I can do all things through Christ, I am the righteousness of God in Christ, Greater is he that is in me… never out side Christ.

Colossians 2:6-7 reads, “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
